UEFA CUP 2007/08
GROUP STAGE - MATCHDAY 2 - GROUP E
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH, 2007
Toulouse (France) 2, Sparta Praha 3
Half Time: 1-0
Goals: 14th Elmander, 80th Mansare ? 67th Kisel, 68th Dosek, 87th Kisel
Attendance: 8,546
A late Karol Kisel goal kept Sparta Praha in the hunt for a place in the UEFA Cup?s next phase last night, sealing a dramatic 3-2 win for the Czech champions.
?We started the game very badly and timidly,? said Sparta coach Michal Bilek. ?That lasted for 25 minutes, and then our heads lifted. From then on, we had an outstanding game with an even better result.?
Although not fully fit, playmaker Pavel Horvath earned coach Michal Bilek?s praise, coming off the bench to play a part in two Sparta goals.
?I don?t want to praise just him, but on the third goal and the preceding [shot against the] crossbar, he showed his brilliance,? Bilek commented.

GROUP STAGE - MATCHDAY 2 - GROUP C

Mlada Boleslav 1, Villareal (Spain) 2
Half Time: 0-1
Goals: 89th Mendy ? 33rd Nihat, 55th Santi Cazorla
Attendance: 4,082
French forward Alexandre Mendy scored a late consolation goal last night as Mlada Boleslav made a losing start to their Group C campaign.
After a poor first-half performance, coach Zdenek Scasny said his team were much improved after the break but were undone by Villareal?s second goal.
?Unfortunately, we again failed to cover a fast counter-attack,? he said. ?But it was a positive that the players kept going and didn?t give up. Mendy?s ?contact goal? came too late though.?
Never afraid to court controversy, Scasny also argued that Jakub Reznicek had had a stoppage-time goal wrongly ruled out for offside.
?Unfortunately, it probably wasn?t offside, but you can?t do anything about that,? he said. ?Similarly, it?s a pity that we only began to play in the second half.?

Goals: 12th Badea ? 78th Senkerik
Attendance: 8,287
The dream of reaching the Champions League?s knockout phase is over but, with a point they didn?t really deserve, Slavia guaranteed themselves a place in the UEFA Cup last night.
Going into the game, Slavia coach Karel Jarolim surprised everyone by including Gaucho in his starting line-up, even though the Brazilian forward had played only 98 minutes of football this season.
The gamble didn?t pay off, but Gaucho wasn?t the only Slavia player to disappoint, with a Zdenek Senkerik?s well worked late equalizer going against the general run of play.
Karel Jarolim (Slavia Coach): ?The first half didn?t go according to plan. We didn?t play well, [defensive midfielder Michal] Svec got injured and we had to make changes. At the break, I made some comments on our play and the second half was substantially better. We managed to equalize and win the desired point.
?In the first half, we gave the ball away a lot and, as a result we didn?t create many chances. We gave the home team space and didn?t play how we wanted to. After the break, it improved, we equalized and at the end [Tijani] Belaid could have won the game for us.?
